Smaugust 2026, Week Three: Days 15 to 21

Week three of the @myst.does.ai Smaugust prompt list. This is the cosy stretch, mostly, apart from the day with the collar on it.

Day 15 · Battle-Scarred

Old dragon, scarred up, lying on the rocks with three crows sitting on him. He’s letting them. That’s the part that gets me. The snow one does the same trick with goats, which have wandered up to a sleeping predator and decided it’s furniture.

Day 16 · Star Dragon

Dark scales with stars caught in them and one gold eye doing all the work. Space dragons are easy to make pretty and hard to make heavy. The constellation one is the opposite approach, a dragon drawn in dots and lines over a little observatory, and somebody down there is having the night of their life.

Day 17 · Dragon Librarian

Curled up in a nest of open books under a warm lamp, in a library that keeps going up into the dark. Librarian, guardian, either way the books are staying. The last one is the building itself, with the dragon’s spine as the ceiling vault, and one person standing at the bottom of it not looking up.

Day 18 · Cottagecore

Window seat, cushions, lamp, tea, rain outside, dragon asleep on the good upholstery. I have no notes. I want to live there. The garden one is the same energy outdoors, hens standing on a sleeping dragon in the lettuce beds like it’s a warm rock.

Day 19 · Rune Dragon

Gold on the horns, a sigil burning on the cheek, and an iron collar under all of it. Somebody wrote on him and somebody made the collar, and those are not necessarily the same somebody. Two of these have him chained in a room somebody built for the purpose, which answers the question and I wish it didn’t.

Day 20 · Hatchling Nest

Cracked shell, wet little face, two eggs still shut behind him. Look at him! He has no idea what he is or what any of it is going to cost.

Day 21 · Dark Academia

Up on the stone rail of a gothic university like a gargoyle that got bored of being architecture. Autumn, overcast, nobody in the quad looking up. They never look up. The lecture theatre one is worse: they built the benches around it and then sat in them.
